MOLOKAI
"The
Friendly Island"

|
Stand at the Kalaupapa
Lookout - atop the
worlds largest sea cliffs - and gaze down upon the leper colony
where patients of what is now called Hansens disease still reside.
Ponder the isolation and desperation that Father Damien must
have encountered when he arrived. Visit the pristine beaches on
the west shores of the island.
Only nine miles across the sea from Maui, but years apart,
Moloka'i has a large population of Native Hawaiians. Step back
in time and visit sites such as Father Damien's Church and the
Hawaiian Fish Ponds, the ancient Hawaiian's form of
aqua-culture. Lunch at the Hotel Molokai features Hawaiian
music and Polynesian crafts in an ocean-side setting. "Talk
story" with old timers as they share historic tales and amusing
anecdotes. Finish up your visit with a stop in Kaunakakai, a
sleeply little town at the heart of Moloka'i that will take you
back in time.
